Full Colour Eco-friendly Printing with The Picture Works

Our printing is to the highest possible quality and is ecologically sound.

Eco-friendly Digital Printing

For our Digital Daily products (except for A1 Posters) we print on a recycled stock call Revive which is 350gsm. Our DL Flyers are 130gsm. A1 Posters are printed on poster paper and are 170gsm.

HP Indigo presses support environmentally responsible printing. Printing is an industrial process, but digital printing is a computerised process, which is by nature less demanding of resources and less wasteful than conventional print. Digital printing is better for the environment because it creates less waste: fewer chemicals are used in the process and there is little, if any, paper waste. We can print an exact number of copies without any prepress waste at all – for short runs this is both cost-effective and hugely efficient.

HP ElectroInk is the single most recognizable difference between HP Indigo digital printing and all other forms of digital printing. HP ElectroInk comes in cartridges in paste form and is diluted with imaging oil, as discussed previously. A liquid ink in an offset- like process, HP ElectroInk produces the “look and feel of offset” that differentiates it from dry toner digital printing.

  • HP ElectroInk has been awarded the Nordic Swan ecolabel for use on printed matter
  • HP ElectroInk complies with the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
  • HP ElectroInk uses no chemicals requiring Prior Informed Consent under the Rotterdam Convention for use in International Trade
  • HP ElectroInk complies with the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer
  • HP ElectroInk is not classified as Dangerous Goods under International Air Transportation Association Regulations

Eco-friendly Lithographic Printing

For our Litho Monthly products we use 300 gsm 1 sided artboard, which is composed of 50% consumer recycled pulp with virgin fibre sourced from sustainable and managed forests.

The board is chlorine free and we print using vegetable based inks.

We use a eco-friendly water based varnish .

The printers we use are also FSC compliant. To earn FSC certification and the right to use the FSC label, an organisation must first adapt its management and operations to conform to all applicable FSC requirements. To learn more about FSC check out their site

We are also part of the 1% for the Planet Alliance. This means we donate 1% of our sales to environmental organisations each year. Last year we donated to Seed Savers.
